Tropical Storm Hermine Heads to Tallahassee

Tracy storm

Tropical Storm Hermine has turned up the surf as she makes her way toward Tallahassee (166 miles east of Destin) so we’re on double red flag conditions and water is closed for swimming. After more than 30 years of living and working along the Emerald Coast, we’ve learned what to expect depending on where the eye of the storm is forecasted to make landfall. We are very fortunate to be on the west side of the storm and far from the eye. We are not anticipating much beyond high surf and some rain.

Once the storm moves through, we anticipate a sunny Labor Day weekend. Beachgoers will want to use extra caution this weekend as storms create strong rip currents. Double red flag means the water is closed for swimming and red flag means knee deep is too deep. Click here for current flag conditions. Once the water re-opens, we recommend enjoying the surf from the water's edge or with a boogie board or surf board for safety and added fun.

There are many great Labor Day weekend happenings and events. View South Walton and Destin Labor Day Weekend events listed on the Northwest Florida Daily News.
