What is there to do in Destin since Coronavirus?

SUP

We know you need a change of scenery and don't want to miss taking your treasured Destin beach vacation this year. At Newman-Dailey guest and staff safety is our top priority. Therefore in addition to our enhanced sanitization and cleaning protocols and new COVID-19 procedures, our team has created a list of things to do in Destin that allow for social distancing. Here are our top suggestions:

Try Stand Up Paddle Boarding.

This fun water activity is an individual watersport. Get out on the water, either in the Bay, the Gulf, or the Sound, and try this fun popular activity that allows you to peer down in the water to view marine life. For added fun, rent paddleboards from LaDolce Vita or nearby equipment rental company and paddle out to one of the five artificial reef locations that are approximately 100 feet offshore. Biking.

Biking is another fun activity that is individual. Sanitize the handlebars and head out for fun! Whether biking Scenic Gulf Drive and the neighborhoods of Crystal Beach or pedaling the Timpoochee Trail along Scenic Highway 30A, it is fun to enjoy the wind in your hair and feel free like a kid again. Local equipment rental companies including LaDolce Vita and Rent Gear Here offer hourly, daily and weekly rentals. Up the fun by renting an electric bicycle from Pedego 30A. These super fun charged bikes have pedal assist so when your legs get tired hit the throttle and say “hello fun!”

Hiking.

One of the joys of visiting the South Walton area is access to five state parks and Point Washington State Forest.  From Henderson Beach State Park to Topsail Hill State Park to Grayton Beach State Parks, our Florida parks feature miles of trails and rare geological gems including rare coastal dune lakes. Up your fun by downloading the Geo-Caching app and make it an adventure finding the treasures at each of the coordinates.

Rent a private boat.

Make it a day on the water by renting a private pontoon boat from Destin Vacation Boat Rentals or La Dolce Vita. Crab Island, a submerged sandbar, at the Destin pass is a locals gathering spot for those with boats. Or head out exploring secluded spots and tributaries in the Choctawhatchee Bay.

Rent a jet ski.

Looking for fast-paced fun? Rent a jet ski and jump waves in the Gulf or explore the Choctawhatchee Bay. Either way, you’ll have fun out on the water away from crowds.

Visit a Local Museum.

While everyone is at the beach, your group could head to one of Destin's local museums to learn more about the history and heritage of the Emerald Coast. Whether you visit the Destin Fishing Museum filled with relics from Destin's rich fishing history and the types of fish caught in area waters or visit the Indian Temple Mound Museum in Fort Walton Beach to learn about the area's Native American history and artifacts, your group will enjoy a break from the sun and expand your knowledge of Florida's Emerald Coast. Other fun museum options include the Heritage Museum of Northwest Florida in Valpariso and the Air Armament Museum on Eglin Air Force Base.

Hit the Beach.

During the busy summer season, timing is everything. To avoid crowds and ensure social distancing from your neighbors, visit the beach early in the day. You'll catch the sunrise and all the best beach finds that washed ashore overnight will be yours for the taking. Act local and bring a trash bag to help keep our area beaches clean and pristine. During the mid-day when the beaches are the busiest, head inland to state parks and forest paths where you'll keep cool and keep your distance from other vacationers or simply relax and enjoy the comfort and beauty of your vacation rental.
