30A Sea Life Discovery Center Caters to Kids with Spring and Summer Camps

Appleseed Kids Sea Life Discovery Center is a non-profit organization developed to connect kids to the ocean through hands on discovery programs. These programs involve a combination of lab studies, in-field science studies and experiential adventures that share knowledge and support conservation programs to protect our ocean environment. 

Creating the perfect union of education, conservation and fun, 30A Sea Life Discovery Center Team send participants away with knowledge about our marine ecosystem, endangered sea turtles, and much more.

Programs for 2020 include: 

Day Camps - Monday through Thursday (Drop off kids) 

9 am - 11 am - Shark Pups Program (Ages 3-7)

The 30A Sea Life Discover Center Lab will host a two hour workshop for kids ages 3-7, which includes a shark sandbox activity, shark tooth craft activity, and touch tank sensory craft.

12pm - 2pm - Mermaid Protector of our Seas Adventure (Ages 4-10)

From noon to 2 p.m., the daily kids’ camp will teach kids about manatees, dolphins and sea turtles. Participants will have the opportunity to gather around touch tanks to interact with marine life and take photos with the marine creatures. Kids will end the fun and educational session by making sea trash arts and crafts.

1pm - 3pm - Sea Turtle Hatchling Adventure (Ages 3-7)

The 30A Sea Life Discover Center Lab will host a two-hour workshop for kids ages 3-7, which will focus on sea turtles--where they eat, where they live, etc. Kids will gather around the touch tank to experience critters that live with turtles. The session will end with a craft project and beach walk.

4 pm - 6 pm - Shark Attack Adventure (Ages 8-13)

At 4 p.m., 30A Sea Life Discover Center Lab will host a two-hour workshop for kids ages 8-13, which will focus on shark identification, shark liver lab, shark attack project, and predator / prey lab. 

Summer Camp: 30A Ocean Camp

30a Sealife Discovery Center offers a variety of Summer Camp programs for 5th graders through young adults that teach ocean preservation, snorkeling, life saving, ocean critter handling, and surf and paddleboard programs. While our Ocean Camp is a day camp program for students entering 5th and 6th grade, our residential/overnight summer camp programs are open to students entering 7th through 12th grade in the upcoming fall. 

They also offer a SCUBA and snorkel program for young adults with certification on a boat trip in the Gulf of Mexico.  Try scuba is offered at our summer camp and they offer an optional SCUBA certification program for student 11+.

30A Sea Life Discovery Center’s hands-on, outdoor education will provide your student with a unique Summer Camp experience. 

Family Programs

In addition to kids camps, 30A Sea Life Discovery Center offers in-the-field excursions for the whole family. 

Shelldon’s Sea Turtle Underwater Adventures – This field trip will take particpants to a special spot in St. Andrew’s Bay where juvenile sea turtles feed and grow before heading back to the Gulf of Mexico. This 7 hour excursion including transport to St. Andrews, boat ride to locations and hands-on show and tell session with critters found in the sea grasses. (Ages 4+) $95/person

Finding Life – Artificial Reef Snorkeling Adventure – The South Walton Artificial Reef Association has submerged artificial reefs along South Walton’s shores including one in Grayton Beach. This 6-hour program will take participants out to the reef and identify the sea creatures that now call the reef home. (ages 6+) $95/person

Creature Feature – Kayak or Stand Up Paddle Board Adventure – The Sea Life team will take participants out into the coastal dune lake and the Gulf of Mexico (depending on conditions). The 5-hour program is a fund day on the water while enjoying hands on learning about a wide variety of marine species. (ages 5+) $75/person
