When the weather is not ideal or you simply need a break from fun, sun and sand, consider a visit to the Destin History & Fishing Museum near the Destin Harbor.

Have you ever wondered… Why is Destin called “The World’s Luckiest Fishing Village”?  Why is the sand in Destin so sugar white?  Who settled the area and why is it called Destin?  These are just a few of the answers you’ll find at the Destin History & Fishing Museum.

The museum boasts and impressive collection of classic fishing tools and techniques. You’ll see the seine nets that were used before there were modern rods and reels as well as the anique split bamboo rod that was once used by Ernest Hemingway.  There are also more than 75 mounts of locally caught fish, familiarizing families on the many species that call our Gulf waters home.

Located on the north side of Highway 98 from Harborwalk Village at 108 Stahlman Avenue, the museum is open Tuesday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.   Visit the museum on Saturday, March 25 for a special lecture series to honor Archeology Day.
