Grayton Beer Brewery Adds Cans to Collection

GRAYTSignShot

Many of our guests ask about local craft beers brewed in South Walton and we're always excited to share what's new and local. Grayton Beer Company recently announced that their beer currently packaged as 30A Beach Blonde Ale is now available in 12 oz. cans as Beach Permit Blonde Ale. Appropriately named, the new aluminum packaging allows the popular local brew to be iced down and taken to the beach where glass is prohibited.

For those who are not familiar with Grayton Beer Company, it was launched by Jamey Price on Jan. 1, 2014.  Located in Santa Rosa Beach, Grayton Beer has three distinct offerings—annuals (beers available year-round), artist series (specialty limited release styles) and barrel aged (750 ml cork and cage, aged small batch beers). The original brew, 30A Beach Blonde Ale, was created to bridge the gap between lager and ale. They also brew several other annuals, including Grayton Pale Ale,1890 Founder’s Ale, White Dunes, Fish Whistle IPA and Salt of the Gulf.

Price is particularly fond of the artist series line as it allows the brew team to celebrate creativity and seasonality. One such artist series beer is the Franklin County Stout, an oyster stout named for the county which supplies the majority of the oysters to the Emerald Coast. Another artist series beer is the Redneck Rye-viera, their Harvest Ale. Each fall, Grayton Beer releases a Harvest Ale, which they create by using fresh hops brewed within 24 hours of harvest from a different location each year.

Another point of pride for Price is their Barrel Aged series. These small batch custom beers are brewed, then aged in different barrels, enabling the product to take on the characteristics of the barrel. From French Oak to Tequila barrels, barrel fermentation is growing in popularity. This year, the brew team will infuse their barrels with fresh ingredients such as lemon grass, cold-pressed fruit, and ginger resulting in different flavor profiles of beer from a single batch.

The addition of their barrel aged line has led to an exciting partnership with Krutz Family Cellars winery. Their 2014 “Magnolia” Chardonnay barrels have been used to create a new brew called “Treble Hook”, a Belgium-style triple. Treble Hook is a Belgium strong ale with a 9.5 alcohol content.

While most of their signature annual beers are available at bars and restaurants along the Florida Panhandle, the best way to taste Grayton Beer is at the Grayton Beer Taproom, located within the South Walton Industrial Plaza in Santa Rosa Beach. Open Thursday and Friday from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday noon to 6 p.m., guests can try all their annuals as well as the artist series and coveted small batch barrel aged beers.
