Moms Just Wanna Have Fun in Destin for Mother's Day

Motherhood can be exhausting. That’s why Anna Jarvis helped make Mother's Day an official U.S. Holiday in 1914. Moms give so much and what do they get in return? Runny noses, dirty clothes and tons of thankless tasks. So what does mom want for Mother’s Day? We know she wants to relax and have fun.

In fact, the “State of Fun” survey commissioned by the shoe brand Crocs, which polled 2,200 U.S. moms, revealed mothers are not having enough fun. As many as 79 percent of mothers reported that they are yearning for more fun in their lives. So what is the easiest cure for this happiness deficit? Beach time, of course!  Why is the beach where she’d rather be? Let us count the ways:

The beach is relaxing.

Once everyone has their sunblock applied, they are free to play in the sand, walk along the shore and jump the waves, while mom can relax. There are many therapeutic qualities of the beach, including the meditative sound of the waves lapping the shore, vitamin D from the sun and inhaling fresh air. And when mom feels rested, she can join in the fun, playing games on the beach, building sand castles and playing in the surf. Beach therapy is definitely fun!

The shopping is amazing.

Maybe mom would like something new for herself. The shopping in Destin and South Walton is great for one-of-a-kind finds. In addition, mom can save hundreds of dollars on herself and the whole family at Silver Sands Premium Outlets, which features 100+ designer outlet stores offering up to 65% off retail prices.

The culinary scene is deliciously, healthy.

Local chefs source fresh produce from area farms and fresh seafood from the Gulf creating many options for deliciously healthy meals. From casual dining EverCrisp to upscale cafes such as Vintij Wine Boutique to fine dining at Emeril’s Coastal Cosine to waterfront dining at Vue on 30A, Pompano Joe’s, and Brotula’s Seafood House & Steamer, among many others, there is no shortage of delicious eateries to treat mom to delicacies at the beach.

The spas are dreamy.

Sweeten mom’s time at the beach by giving her a gift certificate to the new Salamander Spa at The Henderson Resort or Serenity by the sea at the Hilton Sandestin. These luxury spas provide mom access to the wet room, fitness center, lounging areas and salon with any service. Spending time at the spa is always fun!

The events are entertaining.

There are a variety of activities and events held during Mother’s Day weekend and through the spring. ArsQuest Art Festival, May 12-13, features original art from more than 150 artists from around the country. Held in the Town Center of Grand Boulevard at Sandestin the art filled weekend also includes musical entertainment, ImagiNation for kids, student exhibits and more. Every Thursday in May & June, the Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation hosts Concerts in the Village featuring live performances by local, regional and national artists performing a diverse array of genres from Motown to modern rock to folk and funk.

So give mom what she really wants tor Mother’s Day—Fun!
